My Journey as a Data Scientist

  • Around an hour later (and him telling me that pursuing a degree in journalism was a terrible idea), we settled on a career path.
  • I started out with learning Python, and spent around 7–8 hours a day coding on sites like LeetCode and HackerRank.
  • I also did multiple online courses to get a foundational knowledge in data science and analytics, and spent at least 4 hours a day studying math and theoretical material.
  • Every single time you create something that doesn’t work out the way you wanted it to, you learn.
  • When I started creating projects, telling stories, and writing, I started with exactly zero views.
  • As of now, I am simultaneously studying and working in the field of data science.
  • I wake up everyday excited about learning new things, coming up with ideas, and creating new projects.

Viagogo's $4 billion purchase of Stubhub is in trouble

  • The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said in a statement that the deal is "likely to result in a substantial lessening of competition in the online secondary ticketing market," increasing fees for customers and reducing innovation.
  • Viagogo bought StubHub from eBay in February for $4.05 billion in cash, just weeks before the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of sporting events and concerts around the world.
  • While the CMA recognized the impact of the pandemic on the live events industry, it said the companies will remain "important competitors for the foreseeable future without the merger." The regulator said it could require Viagogo to sell all or part of StubHub to address its concerns and has invited comment on its provisional findings by November 12.

Facebook adds hosting, shopping features, and pricing tiers to WhatsApp Business

  • It’s launching a way to shop for and pay for goods and services in WhatsApp chats; it’s going head to head with the hosting providers of the world with a new product called Facebook Hosting Services to host businesses’ online assets and activity; and — in line with its expanding product range — Facebook said it will finally start to charge companies using WhatsApp for Business.
  • Today’s move sounds like a new way for businesses in turn to use WhatsApp both to link through to those Facebook-native catalogs, as well as other products, and then purchase items, while still staying in the chat.
  • That fragmentation spells opportunity for a huge company like Facebook with a global profile, a burgeoning amount of connections through to other online services for these SMBs, and a pretty extensive network of data centers around the world that it’s built for itself and can now use to provide services to others — which is, indeed, a pretty strong parallel with how Amazon and AWS have done business.

JoinPeerTube

  • Check out PeerTube’s new roadmap for the development of many features including live and peer-to-peer video streaming.
  • For example, PeerTube and Mastodon -a Twitter alternative- are connected: you can follow a PeerTube user from Mastodon (the latest videos from the PeerTube account you follow will appear in your feed), and even comment on a PeerTube-hosted video directly from your Mastodon's account.
  • This free/libre license guarantees our fundamental freedoms as users and allows many contributors to offer evolutions and new features.
  • It might not look like it, but thanks to peer-to-peer broadcasting, popular video makers and their videos are no longer forced to be hosted by big companies, whose infrastructure can stand thousands of views at the same time...
  • The more people use, support, and contribute to PeerTube, the quicker it will become a concrete alternative to platforms like YouTube.
