Troubleshooting OpenShift Clusters and Workloads

  • Unlike the example with nodes, this won’t give you shell to the running pod, but rather create exact replica of the existing pod in debug mode.
  • Another use case would be to copy files into the pod (container) to quickly fix some issue during testing, before fixing it properly in Docker image ( Dockerfile) or source code.
  • First command can inspect image repository, which can be useful for example in case image can’t be pulled, which might happen if the tag doesn’t exist or the image name got misspelled.
  • When everything else fails, you might try running oc adm must-gather to get all the information available from the cluster, that could be useful for debugging.
  • Next, we create carbon copy of the application using oc debug and try reaching the database pod with curl, which is successful.

The Mom Project raises $25M for its job site aimed at women returning to work

  • And to underscore that, The Mom Project — a Chicago startup that focuses on connecting women, including parents, with jobs from organizations specifically open to employing people who meet that profile — is announcing a $25 million round of funding to expand its business.
  • On one side, the startup works with businesses to post job listings that specifically target women and those returning to work who might need more flexible terms in their employment engagements, as well as analyse its overall HR strategies around those efforts.
  • In some ways, it plays into what the startup has been building all along: currently some two-thirds of all jobs posted and that people are looking to do are focused on fixed-term projects, rather than permanent positions, and so as companies slow down their normal recruiting, it leaves a space for the kind of work that people who need more flexible schedules may be able to do.

Microsoft to distribute $20M in grants to non-profits, offers free skills training via LinkedIn

  • And alongside that, Microsoft said it plans to disperse $20 million in grants to non-profit organizations, both which are working to help those who have lost jobs due to COVID-19 and subsequent shifts in the economy, and with a specific emphasis on those that are working with groups that are underrepresented in the tech world.
  • LinkedIn has designed “Learning Paths” that it offers through its online education portal for these jobs, and these will now be available to everyone free to use, globally, until the end of March 2021, in English, French, Spanish and German, with content getting updated in the tracks as needed.
  • In addition to the online learning efforts, LinkedIn is also launching a separate track for those who want to either leverage LinkedIn to get spotted more easily for job opportunities, and for those who want to volunteer to help others, to offer advice and mentorship for those looking for work, or get more training to get through interviews.

How well do cars do in crash tests they're not optimized for?

  • Despite the importance of small overlap crashes, from looking at the results when the IIHS added the driver-side and passenger-side small overlap tests in 2012 and 2018, it looks like almost all car manufacturers were optimizing for benchmark and not overall safety.
  • We don't have crash test data on this, and looking at real-world safety data is beyond the scope of this post, but I'll note that, until around the time the NHSTA put the 5%-ile female dummy into some crash tests, most car manufacturers not named Volvo had a significantly fatality rate differential in side crashes based on gender (with men dying at a lower rate and women dying at a higher rate).

Working with Multiple Tables thanks to SQL and ERD

  • For this second lesson of my tutorial, I generated a database with five tables that you can download from my GitHub in the folder named SQL tutorial.
  • We will make a study about an imaginary company called Space Odyssey and as I promised in the previous lesson, I will introduce you to the concept of ERD (i.e. Entity-Relationship Diagram) and some fundamentals about SQL.
  • Knowing the connection between the tables thanks to primary key and foreign key is essential to merge, manipulate and extract information from our database and having a better overview of the situation in which we work.
  • In this lesson we will make some combinations of the tables to better understand the online company Space Odyssey.
  • This online company sells movies for 100 countries and as Data Analysts we have to coordinate a team of 50 sellers who manage the mailing list of 501 customers.

Microsoft’s new Windows File Recovery tool lets you retrieve deleted documents

  • Microsoft is releasing its own Windows File Recovery tool, designed to retrieve files you’ve mistakenly deleted.
  • Like any file recovery tool, you’ll need to use it as soon as possible on deleted files to ensure they haven’t been overwritten.
  • Microsoft’s file recovery tool has a default mode that’s designed primarily for NTFS file systems.
  • A second signature mode will likely be the more popular option, allowing users to recover specific file types across FAT, exFAT, and ReFS file systems.
  • Windows File Recovery will be a useful tool for anyone who has accidentally deleted an important document, or wiped a drive clean by mistake.
  • Microsoft already provides a Previous Versions feature in Windows 10 that lets you recovery documents you may have deleted, but you have to specifically enable this using a File History feature that’s disabled by default.
